Hoodoos.
That's what you'll remember about Bryce
Canyon National Park. Named for Ebenezer Bryce, a Mormon carpenter
who moved into the area in 1875. He moved to Arizona five years later,
but the name stuck. In 1928 Bryce Canyon N.P. was designated by the National
Parks service.

Differential
erosion. The plateau region recieves about 100 inches of snow per year
and about 200 days of frost/thaw. The snow thaws, runs into cracks, the
freezes at night breaking apart the rock. The four types of rock in the
layers erode at different rates creating the fanciful shapes of the hoodoos.
