This is the town called Ninilchik just outside of Homer Alaska. It lies across Kachemak Bay and across the Kenai mountains from the Kenai Fjord N.P. Scott passed through Homer and stopped to make the image below.
Here on the easel is a drawing made in
Homer is from the spit, which is the furthest west
that one may drive on a continuous U.S. road.
